3 Ways To Brighten Up A Dark Room

In many older homes, rooms often didn’t have the same lighting design that more modern homes have. This can cause the homes to both look and feel dark. But luckily, there are things that you can do to make dark rooms in your home brighter without having to do renovations that put more lights into the space.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three ways to brighten up a dark room.

Take Down The Curtains

When you don’t have lights built into the home that you can turn on whenever you want, you’ll want to try to take the most possible advantage of the natural light that’s available.

One way to do this is to keep the space around the windows of your home as clear and open as possible. If you currently have curtains up at the windows, consider taking them down. Curtains and drapes add bulk to the windows and can block some of the light from coming in even when the curtains are drawn back.

If you still want the privacy that comes from curtains, consider installing something like a Roman shade, which is smaller and will block less of the light from coming in from the window. This will cut down on the bulk around the window dramatically.

Bring In Lots Of Light

If the room is still dark even with bringing in as much natural light as possible, you can always bring in more lamps or other lights to help brighten the place up.

When choosing what lights you want to include in your space, try thinking about lighting in a sense of layers. While it can be nice to have overhead lighting that you’re able to turn on and light the entire space, it can also be helpful to have things like mood lighting or task lighting in certain situations. So rather than putting up just one bright lamp, try finding ways to bring in different kinds of lighting.

Use Lots Of Mirrors

Another thing that you can do to help your home seem brighter is to make use of a lot of mirrors in your space.

As light is reflected through mirrors, it will bounce off and brighten up all kinds of spaces within the room. This can be done with both small and large mirrors. But in most cases, the bigger the mirror is, the more light it’s able to reflect back into the space of whatever room you’re trying to brighten. This way, you can use fewer lights while making the room seem much brighter than it otherwise would be.

If you have a dark room in your home that you’re wanting to brighten up, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
